Congrats to RSST master skater Joanie Sewert for completing the Boston 5K last Saturday, her first race since December knee surgery. Some of RSST’s Cobbs Hill running friends also ran the 5K and are pictured with Joanie (Mike V’s dgtr Emily, Jane K, Mike V, Kathy P and Joanie). 2 days later Mike ran his first Boston Marathon/3:55 and also Larry Beck, a former RSSTer now living in WA ran his first Boston/3:26. Congrats all!
Congrats to Coach Tom Rossborough who completed the 27.5 mile Breakneck Point Hike on 04/16 in Beacon, NY. The event included 10,000 of accumulated gain and recommended for only very experienced outdoorsmen. Congrats on a great finish Tom!
A very successful skating season ended in March and now RSST looks forward to the off-season Cobbs Hill workouts – beginning date TBA. Thank you to our dedicated coaches, president, board, parents, families and friends.

Congrats to RSST’s Kathy Feinberg who competed at the Master Allround Games in Leeuwaarden, Netherlands March 4-6! Karen Verrone traveled with Kathy and they were joined by six other skaters from the U.S. that many of us know and have competed with: John Diemont, Theron Sands, Joanna Walter, Vince Morris and NYers Glenn Corso and Marty Haire. Congrats all!
Congrats to the Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse skaters participating in the 2016 Kids/Novice Mini Meet – Clash of the Cats – at Genesee Valley Arena on Saturday, February 20. Thank you to Coach Karen Verrone for directing the event and to RSST’s coaches, skaters, families and friends for volunteering and making this a fun meet. Congrats to Nate and Kathy Feinberg on their National Marathon Championships performance at the Pettit Center in Wisconsin February 19-20. They each won their age divisions in both the 25K and the 50K. Great skate Feinbergs! Next weekend they will head to the Netherlands to compete, along with RSST teammate Karen Verrone.
February news: 1. Congrats to all skaters at Empire State Games especially Evan Phillips of RSST in pre-scholastic with 2 medals, and Coach Julie Gehring with 7 medals in LT and ST. 2 former RSST skaters now training in Lake Placid won Golds in LT – Sydney Terpening and Fletcher Codd and Syd also came away with Gold in ST.

Congrats to RSSTers who competed on and off the ice the past week! Holly Turner finished the Winter Warrior Half Marathon on 01/09 several weeks after surgery for a broken wrist in 2:19. 01/13 Snow Cheap Trail Run #3: Tom Rossborough/22:23 1st M50-59; WestonRossborough/26:50 4th 20-29; Eva Culocova/38:45 14th of 40 50-59; Donna Roberts/39:10 2nd F60-69; Jerry Roberts/39:10 4th M60-69. Two former RSST skaters now training in Lake Placid with coach Tom Miller competed at the Long Track Junior Nationals in Wisconsin. Sydney Terpening earned the over all Silver Medal Junior C Ladies and Fletcher Codd was 4th in Junior Men.
Congrats Kathy and Nate Feinberg! At Marathon de Quebec on December 19-20 in the 25K Nate was 3rd/M50-59 and Kathy 4th/F50-59 and in the Defi de l’heure Nate was 4th overall and Kathy 11th overall. Results and photos.

The Rochester Speed Skating Team meets 3 times a week at the Genesee Valley Ice Arena on Elmwood Avenue in Rochester, NY. There are approximately 45 skaters age 4-80 who participate in the training sessions. The Team’s coaches are all competitive speed skaters with a number of them having skated to national and international titles on the Master (over 30) level. Several of our teen skaters went on to train at centers in Utah, Michigan and Wisconsin with several competing on a world team. RSST conducts Learn to Speed Skate sessions several times during the season and anyone interested in learning the sport may email email@example.com for further information.
